Pet supply retailer Chewy Inc. intends to expand to the Kansas City area with an e-commerce fulfillment center in Belton.
Florida-based Chewy searched the U.S. for a location before settling on NorthPoint Development’s Southview Commerce Center in Belton. The facility will be 796,000 square feet.
The metro area landed the project in part because of a relationship between local economic development officials, including the Kansas City Area Development Council, and Chewy’s lead site selector. NorthPoint also has built fulfillment centers for the pet retailer in other states.
Chewy was awarded a 10-year personal property tax abatement on an estimated $70 million in project equipment.
